WEST DES MOINES, IA (09/22/2025) Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences has been named a 2025 Great Colleges to Work Fora, a national workplace recognition program administered by ModernThink and showcased by the Chronicle of Higher Education.
The results, released on Sept. 19 in a special Chronicle insert, are based on employee feedback from 199 participating colleges and universities.
DMU is among only 76 colleges and universities selected this year for the recognition. DMU is included in the small universities category (500-2,999 students).
DMU earned honors in three categories:
Compensation and Benefits
Faculty and Staff Well-Being
Professional Development
"This affirmation matters because it comes directly from our employees," says Angela L. Walker Franklin, Ph.D., president and CEO of DMU. "We're intentional about fair compensation, well-being and professional growth because those investments elevate our culture and, ultimately, our students and the people they will one day serve. Our goal is to be an organization that values the needs and contributions of every individual. Everyone at DMU helps make this a great place to work."
This marks DMU's fourth appearance on the list. The university was previously recognized in 2016, 2019 and 2022.
The Great Colleges to Work Fora program uses a two-part assessment: a survey completed by faculty, administrators and staff, and an institutional questionnaire capturing employment data and policies. Employee feedback is the primary factor in recognition.
"Great workplaces do not happen by accident. They are the result of intentional choices and courageous leadership," says Richard K. Boyer, chief culture strategist at ModernThink, which administers the survey and analysis.
